Janet Powers: Across the kitchen table with Janet
View the Diva Toolbox Radio Program Schedule
An experienced entrepreneur, self-proclaimed corporate management refugee, media darling, speaker and radio show host, Janet Powers is Founder, President and Chief Executive Diva of the Diva Toolbox. In 2008, Janet found that her role as a Departmental Vice President at Fidelity Investments was not as fulfilling as it once was. The world of entrepreneurship lured her away from her job that year and she has never looked back.
Leading up to 2008, Janet built her first home, invested in retirement and bought a new car. All of these events raised many questions for her. But she didn’t know what online resource to turn to for trust-worthy advice, like you’d get from your girlfriend across your kitchen table. As a result, in July 2008 she created this resource herself which is now the web site www.DivaToobox.com. Visitors to the web site spend an average of 16 minutes on the site and visit an average of 11 pages. These numbers are extremely high compared to most other popular web sites for women in business and even Oprah.com.
What started as a web site where women business owners can post articles for free has grown to become the go-to spot online for women to connect with and support other women. At the web site, today’s modern women can find information, inspiration and resources they need in every aspect of their lives from how to hire a plumber to how to plan their estate. Janet has attracted over 800 contributors to share their information freely at the site every month.
In 2009, Janet launched the Diva Toolbox Radio Network which hosts over 150 different radio shows (and growing) including her own show called Across the Kitchen Table with Janet. A few noted interviewees on Janet’s show include Sally Lee, SVP of Meredith Corporation and Editor in Chief of Ladies of Home Journal, Kathy Ireland, super-model and billion dollar businesswoman, Pop icon, Helen Reddy and Julie Morgenstern and Peter Walsh who have both been featured on Oprah. In 2010, Janet added an in-person conference that is expected to bring together hundreds of women together from around the world.
Janet has been featured in over 100 media outlets including The Boston Herald, workchic.com, StreetInsider.com, ToiletPaperEntrepreneur.com and many others. Janet is the recipient of the 2010 President’s Call to Service Award and was nominated for the NAFE Outstanding Entrepreneur Award. She is a proud member of eWomen Network, Ladies Who Launch, and National Association of Female Executives.
Janet’s passion for helping women to connect with women has helped her to develop partnerships with Pitchrate.com, Simmons Leadership Conference, The Women’s Economic Summit and Blog Talk Radio. Janet’s philanthropic efforts include working with CARE.org and ArmyofWomen.org.
