Health Journeys with Chris Lang, Exec. Director & Founder of PATHS

PATHS mission is to prepare everyone to be more effective health care consumers at every stage of life and health. All of us are called to serve as patient advocates for ourselves or loved-ones whether for a child, an aging parent, a sibling or a beloved friend. We owe it to them to prepare ahead of time for this important role.

Chris Lang has been involved with patient advocacy for 26 years. First, advocating for her husband, John, a multi-organ transplant patient and then 4 other family members. At the same time she began to reach out to others–meeting them where their medical journey took them, guiding and supporting them, always sharing her experience. Professionally, she has been an educator and then a corporate trainer & developer for several national firms. She founded PATHS- Patient Advocacy Training & Health Services, a 501c3 non-profit, in April 2009. PATHS is devoted to teaching the 7 steps to effectively navigate for better healthcare. Chris’s goal is to teach others what she learned over many years in challenging medical situations. “Last summer I realized that I had acquired teachable skills that anyone could learn in a single seminar. I believe in sharing those skills thereby replicating myself. I believe in trained family members serving as the patient advocates. Many times medical challenges arise in the wee hours of the morning or on a weekend. A paid advocate, if you can find one and afford one, is simply not available then. There is no reason to have experienced anything except to pass it on and make someone else’s journey a bit easier. That is my passion and I am lucky that others have joined me to create PATHS.”
