About Mary McManus

Mary McManus is a published poet, entrepreneur, inspirational speaker, polio/post polio survivor and Boston Marathon finisher. Mary found the gift of the blessing of poetry wrapped in the crisis of the diagnosis of post polio syndrome in December 2006. She was an award winning social worker at the ‘top of her game’ in her chosen career. She was told by her treatment team at Spaulding Rehab Hospital that the stress of her full time career was exacerbating the symptoms of post polio syndrome. Mary took a leap of faith and created a new path in her life following her new found passion as a poet.

Mary is the author of “New World Greetings:Inspirational Poetry and Musings for a New World,” which takes the reader on her journey of transformation. Mary generously donates 20% of the proceeds of book sales to Spaulding Rehab’s Polio Fund. Through her Boston Marathon run with her husband and daughter, Team McManus raised $10,535 for Spaulding Rehab Hospital. She is the owner/creator of New World Greeting Cards, original poetry for every occasion where “It’s more than a card, it’s a gift from the heart.”

Mary brings positive messages of love, gratitude, hope, healing, joy and celebration through her poetry. In addition to her passion for poetry, Mary shares the wisdom she learned through her personal journey of transformation with post polio syndrome in her blog, www.newworldgreetings.blogspot.com, and as a guest on numerous radio talk shows. She has been featured on WBZ Boston’s The Jordan Rich Show, a channel 7 Health Cast feature and is the subject of a soon to be released documentary, “Keeping the Pace” about Mary’s journey from post polio syndrome to the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Mary shares her journey to inspire others at Rotary Clubs, churches, running clubs and is a featured poet at the 2009 Massachusetts Poetry Festival. She is preparing her second book of inspirational poetry, “Set Sail for a New World:Healing a Life Through the Gift of Poetry” for publication.

Mary resides in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts with her husband and is the proud mother of 22 year old twins.
