Building A Team

It is great to evaluate, just step back, and take a look at different ways to build a team and also see what is working and what is not working. Every team is different and has its own personality. Just like people teams are motivated or respond to different techniques. Here are some techniques that have worked for me in team building:

1. Does the team know what the company is about?

- True the team knows their jobs and what needs to get done each day. However it can make a difference if the team knows why they are doing these things. It’s great to know why the job matters and how it affects the larger goals of the company.

2. Is the team allowed to solve problems?

- This gives worth to the team and satisfaction when the team is a part of the solution. There are also great ideas that come out of this process and often things are seen that can even be missed by management.

3. Is there trust in the team?

- This is built inside the team by simple things like covering days for each other, helping each other out, not having anyone be a loner all the time, and listening to each other. It is also great to encourage the members of the team to praise each other and thank each other. The little things or not so little mean a lot.

4. Does the team believe they can do it?

- It may sound simply but teams needs to have confidence. This is accomplished by reminding them as the leader that you believe in the team. In this way they are more apt to believe in themselves as a team.
