Are You A Work Horse?

Last week I went out for a run and as I huffed and puffed up a very large hill, I heard my quiet, nurturing voice inside me say:You’re doing great, keep going. And, at that moment, I remember thinking:God, if you’re so nice to me, how am I ever going to ever get anything done?

That quiet voice inside has always been there yet I never allowed myself to hear it as often as I do now.

In my previous corporate work-life, where I was a self-proclaimed workhorse’, the voice that got me to do things, get things done, and achieve, back then, was the voice in my head that consistently reminded me that I wasn’t good enough and that I needed to do better, be better, and change myself in order to be accepted.

Can you relate?

I’m sure you can because this is what most of us are brought up to believe in both our adolescent and in our corporate upbringing. Prove your worth and you’ll be accepted. Yea right, and you’ll also be exhausted trying to make everyone else happy except yourself.

We all know it’s futile to try to continue to push the boulder up hill, be a complete workhorse and whip ourselves in order to get motivated each day. But it happens anyway because what’s the alternative? Be nice to yourself, love yourself through it, and nurture your soul? Because again, if you’re nice to yourself, how will you ever get anything done or accomplished? How could you possibly stay motivated?

Interesting questions to consider considering that most of us don’t realize that we’ve been programmed to believe that our motivation comes from trying to prove your worth rather than simply accepting your worth.

This week consider what your real motivation is and if you’ve been whipping yourself like a workhorse to get things done. Then, consider for just a moment, what it would be like to be gentle with yourself. Would it feel like failure? Like you’re giving up?

I promise you if you are craving a much simpler existence, where you feel fabulous in your own skin, where you do work that feels meaningful and fun, and also experience wild success, where you feel worthy of receiving it ALL, a whipping won’t do.

Your soul needs expression and is longing for it that’s the voice inside you that urges you to take a break, take a day off, just BE. That is your secret to success’ ingredient right there your job is to choose if you’re listen or not.

As always, it’s your choice.
