Employees Concerns – Cosistently Stated
MONEY
First let’s get the pay issue out of the
way. Employees should be paid market value for their job, because this
is simply fair. Pay is not a long term motivator, but it certainly can
be a demotivator. Employees need to understand the pay scale and the
market value of the jobs or positions. If a job changes in significant
ways, the employee should be allowed, and even expected, to request a
raise. It should be noted that employees are also concerned with pay
compression. Usually, employees are advised not to discuss pay in the
workplace, but we all know that it happens. It is inadvisable for new
hires and veteran employees to get too close in pay. The employees’
perception that new hires are paid more and make more quicker can be
closer to the truth than management would like to acknowledge, if they
fail to pay attention to compression.
TRUST AND CONFIDENCE
Often,
employees feel that they are not trusted to make decisions and instead
must just follow orders from the boss. Many managers micro-manage. The
employee feels like they are watched at all times.
WHERE’S A
MANAGER WHEN I NEED ONE? AREN’T I IMPORTANT?
Often,
employees feel they can never find a manger or that the manager does not
listen or has no time. Employees want to be able to speak face to face
at least some of the time. The employee may also feel that though a
manager is available and has time, the manager is unapproachable. There
is a feeling that the manager is bothered by the interruption.
NOBODY
CARES ABOUT THIS PLACE, WHY SHOULD I?
Employees like to
work in an organized and clean facility. Whether you hear this or not
the employees will notice if the facility is clean. The customers will
too. But the employees will understand that a neglected workplace is a
sign that the company does not care how it looks.
FAIRNESS
Employees
want to be treated fairly. They want to know the manager looks at each
employee the same in regards to work. Even when employees make mistakes,
and maybe especially, the employees want to know that the correction
will be the same for all.
