Are you Stimulated by the Stimulus Package?
Show Me the Decision Makers!
Figuring out where the billions of stimulus dollars are going isn’t very hard if you want to read 1,600 pages. (Then again, if the recipients are as clever as the banks. . .)
OK. Just kidding. Towns and cities are not banks and will neither be hoarding cash for their balance sheets nor giving million dollar bonuses. We will surely be seeing these dollars providing jobs and some more well-needed civic improvements.
What About Your Business?
Here is the scoop. If you are in private industry, you are probably not the agency or entity that is going to receive payments directly. However, if you are in a business related to the objectives of the spending plan, you will want to be known to the decision makers who will be mandated to use these funds.
The question is whether you provide the goods or services mandated in the plan or are able to provide goods or services to the companies that will be receiving contracts or funds. In other words, the plan, in its ideology, expects to generate a downline flow of funds.
Who Benefits Downline?
This is good news for recruiters who may be valuable in assisting agencies in filling specific positions – even newly created ones.
Also, contractors, engineering firms, architects and consultants will see downline funds. Science and research companies-even those in the private sector may see grant moneys. Companies that offer computer and networking equipment and services may see opportunities in the schools to upgrade and support technologies, especially in rural areas. Those materials used in construction and technology will be sought to complete projects with funds allocations. Individuals with skills and experience in these areas may see benefit from new jobs created. Green innovations and environmental plans have funds allocated.
Publishers of consumer and business tax information or education providers in this area may see opportunities in offering programs and materials. Suppliers to schools and transportation will see benefits.
If you provide products or services in medicine and health, the stimulus plan may open new doors.
- Education $141 Billion
Energy $58 Billion
Healthcare $153 Billion
Infrastructure (Transportation, Public Buildings, Water) $92 Billion
Science and Technology $16 Billion
The above list represents some parts of direct spending in this program while the remainder is essentially in tax cuts and rebates designed to flow back into the economy.
In the optimistic, enterprising American way, this will translate into a more active and healthy flow of capital as we invent new opportunities to participate in the economic recovery.
