This is a tale, both poignant and true: A friend of mine, let’s call her M, retired a few years ago from a non-profit for whom she had worked for over 25 years. Not just any non-profit, but a fairly prestigious one, and she was doing a lot more than just answering the phones. M is a very dynamic individual and during her tenure she had risen through the organization and was in her later years quite a big muckety-muck.
