Profit from the Most Powerful Word-of-Mouth Marketing Tactic

How important is networking? If you’re trying to be successful, it’s the difference between mediocre and big.

Networking is a mandatory function of business for everyone in all segments of commerce and career networks. Networking is life skills and social skills combined with selling skills. It’s business leisure conducted before and after work — as opposed to business labor, which is conducted from 9 to 5 (the exception being lunch).

Imagine situations where you need to build relationships in order to expand your circles of influence: buffet lines, business meetings, social events, sports event, expos, community programs, conferences, golfing, and the class room. You are always networking regardless of where youmay be.

Whether promoting your business or yourself, learn how to effectively network in any environment. Maximize these networking opportunities by following a process that prepares you for each event. The process includes: preparation before, use of effective skills during, and follow up after the event.

Before the each event be sure you know the kind of folks you’ll be meeting, set goals, prepare questions for engagement, and assemble selling tools such as business cards, small brochures, name badge, a pen, and note paper. (Ditch the handbag and briefcase.) This is the time to prepare your ear-catching 30-second elevator speech.

During the event, you should arrive early, leave late, and stand near the doorway so that you’ll have optimum opportunities to meet and greet. DON’T spend any more than 25% of your time with folks you know and DON’T be a wall flower. Be proactive in reaching outwith a strong handshake. Be there to learn something, explore ways to help others, and then, finally, look for business opportunities for yourself. Remember that it’s all about who knows you that builds trust, referrals, and opens doors for opportunities.

After the event you need to assess the value of the event and your performance’. Be sure to follow up immediately, preferably within 48 hours. Send notes to those with whom you had meaningful discussions, set appointments, and send thank you’s to the organizers and speakers as needed.

Remember: First impressions count. Networking pays.it’s your best WOM tactic!
