My Passion Became My Business

You know the phrase a woman’s hair is her crowing glory? Well, what happens when that crown has some thorns in it? I can honestly say that I have a love/hate relationship with my own hair. I think most people have had similar feelings at some point in their lives if they are really honest. But here’s my story.

I absolutely have a passion for anything related to hair: hair products, hair styles, books about hair, magazines about hair..you get the picture. But, as an African -American woman I have dealt with multiple issues surrounding my hair. The biggest problem is hair breakage. Hair breakage due to bad relaxers, permanent hair color, too much heat from curling irons, flat irons , blow dryers you name it. Not to mention the happy scissors hair stylists that won’t let you grow an inch of hair to begin with.

I once had my hair done so badly that I wanted to RUN, not WALK out the back door of the salon. I had a relaxer put in and my head was burning so bad I thought I might suffer some sort of brain damage. My hair turned out as flat as a pancacke. To say that I was embarrassed would be an understatement. I looked like someone poured olive oil all over my hair and then said,
