Ten Ways to Get More out of your Life
Today’s professionals lead busy, stressful lives and put themselves at the bottom of their list of priorities, especially women with family commitments. If everything hinges on YOU, how can you serve others if you are not in peak mental and physical condition? How does running yourself into the ground help others? You need to take care of yourself. One way of achieving this is by ensuring your life is balanced and here are 10 tips to help you: 1. Know What You Want. Many professionals choose their careers for all the wrong reasons, and even if you are in your chosen career, what else in life do you want to experience? What else would make you happy and fulfilled? Keep “shoulds” and “oughts” out of it.
2. Endeavor to “Live” your passion. This is not about passion for your career. There is more to life. Remember balance. What else are you passionate about and how can you incorporate that more into your life?
3. Don’t just dream about it! If your dream is to take Thursday afternoons off to play golf, make the appointment now. Dreams don’t become reality by wishful thinking alone.
4. Planning. Don’t know where to start? Start with the end, with where you want to be, and work backwards to where you are now. If you look to the future and plan, you are already taking the first step to incorporating your desires into your life.
5. Learn to say no. Avoid burn-out, stress, and the inability to “have a life” by setting boundaries. If nobody else cares about what “you” want, educate them. This is not being selfish.
6. Remove attachment to Expected Outcomes. We can be so attached to a specific outcome and become upset if things don’t turn out the way WE believe or expect they should. Release judgment about people and events and any expectations you have. Accept that whatever happens is for the best and highest good of all. We do not have all the answers and we don’t have to.
7. You Attract What You Think About. Are you familiar with the laws of attraction? Simplify your life and start to “attract” what you want in life by focusing your thoughts on your wants. Don’t think about what you don’t want, because by focusing on those thoughts, that is what you will attract. i.e. think “I want to be rich,” NOT “I don’t want to be poor.”
8. Helping others. Even if you do this at work, do you do it in your personal life? Do you do it when you are not being paid to do it? Ask yourself, in any given situation, “how can I best serve this person?” Think back to a time when somebody “served” you and remember how it made you feel. As you do this, you open the way for the laws of cause and effect to apply, and what you give out will come back to you in more rewarding ways.
9. If you’re really “stuck”, hire a Coach. If someone were sick, you’d tell them to see a Doctor. If your life is unbalanced, see a Life Coach, who will help you achieve work/life balance and achieve more in life than just professional glory. You are worth it and your coach can help you achieve what you can’t achieve on your own.
10. You are here to have Fun, too! There is no law that says we must only work and never be allowed to enjoy ourselves. Find ways to reward yourself and enjoy life. Don’t reach old age with regrets.
