Strictly Business

It’s another busy day at my office its 7a.m. the phones and fax machines are ringing, the printer is out of ink and door bell is ringing all at the same time and, I have a meeting at 8.a.m, the funny thing is, I’m not dressed and as I look to replace my ink cartridge, I realized that I forgot to pick up a new one last week. I tell myself, okay relax, you’re not alone, It’s just business.

But since I had a crazy morning it led me to think, does my home office really reflect who I am? The answer is absolutely, when I set my office up I was so excited and frustrated at the same time, thinking, will any of my clients ever have to come here, will I ever need to have a colleague come by, and seeing that I am a interior designer, I understand that I have to use my office as a marketing tool as I do with every other part of my business. I decided to look at this from a client’s point of view; first impression is always the best impression, right? As I began my journey I thought about my personal style, in doing so you to will increase your efficiency and promote a positive work environment within your work space.

Let’s start with organization; good lighting and storage are key elements for any productive home office. For example, wall mounted shelves are perfect they can hold pictures, scented candles or your favorite novels. When deciding on storage remember keep what you use the most at the forefront, this will really help you keep things in order.

When you enter my home office, you will automatically know that I mean business. I have a beautiful bowl of scented candles on my side table, a few pictures of my favorite people, my daughter & husband on my desk, on the main wall there’s loads of accolades, we need to be reminded of our accomplishments and it really keeps me motivated. To free up the space I have a clear glass desk, this really makes the space look bigger and I had to have a funky comfortable chair, after all I’m sitting there most of the day. I even added a few pieces of art vases and silk trees. For storage, I was fortunate to have a closet in the space and kept it simple by adding some shelves to conceal my office supplies, how to books and old files.

Remember, it’s your space, allow it to reflect who you really are, after all you spend most of your time there, Enjoy it! For more tips on office dcor contact Teresa Perkins directly at; teresaperkins@royaltinteriors.net or 888-372-1555.
