About Stephanie Williams

Stephanie Williams is a working mom, Corporate Buyer, and author of the newly released book Mommy Leadership: How to Use Your Motherhood Skills to Grow as a Leader.

Stephanie always knew she would write a book, however, she wasn’t quite so sure of the timing or the topic. An Ohio native, Stephanie came to Detroit after completing an Industrial Engineering degree at Kettering University and an MBA at Indiana University to work as a Corporate Buyer in the automotive industry.

During her twenty years in corporate America, she matured professionally and gained considerable experience and insights into leading global teams and managing million-dollar projects. Stephanie acquired another aspect of leadership knowledge through her work in the church where she grew up. She developed a keen interest in the practice of leadership and its effect on organizations and teams. As a result, she began working on her PhD in the area of Organizational Behavior and Leadership while working full-time and raising her son.

When her daughter was born, Stephanie soon recognized that she was not Superwoman and could not continue her PhD work. She began to fear that being a devoted mother was hindering her career by limiting the leadership opportunities she could accept. One day as she was feeling a little sorry for herself, she had an epiphany: Motherhood is a leadership role and it offers a wealth of opportunity to develop leadership skills. This realization changed the way she looked at her experiences as a mother, and after talking with many of her friends, she felt compelled to share this concept with other working mothers.

In her first book, Mommy Leadership: How to Use Your Motherhood Experience to Grow as a Leader, working mom Stephanie Williams describes the similarities between motherhood and leadership and shows working mothers how to apply leadership skills developed in motherhood to professional leadership roles. She is a certified trainer and offers seminars and workshops on the topic of Mommy Leadership. She is married and has two active children, a nine-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, who regularly challenge her motherhood skills.
