Team Sudor Taino Makes Awesome Strides Against Breast Cancer in Hartford, Connecticut

My name is Karla Rodriguez and I am the proud founder of Sudor Taino, a small business started in 2007 with the mission to motivate individuals of all ages, sizes and fitness levels to finding their true core energy through fitness and dance with the underlying goal of changing lives one step at a time.Being the founder of Sudor Taino represents just one of the many hats that I wear; but I believe that it represents the very essence of all of the hats I have worn throughout my life and continue to wear today.

In the middle of this summer I went to a dear friend and suggested that Sudor Taino use its intense energy to be a part of a good cause that changes lives.A good cause that could benefit from Sudor Taino’s energy and vivacious spirit.I thought the October Breast Cancer Walk in Hartford would be a great start.I gave the idea a heartbeat and Amy Santangelo became the captain and continued to breathe life into the building of Team Sudor Taino. Two weeks later, one of Sudor Taino’s biggest supporters, Irina Sirovsky, was diagnosed with breast cancer. This prompted many people to join our team through my fitness class, conferences and my email list reminders.Together we pushed for donations complimented by Captain Santangelo’s relentless email and Teri Riley’s (of CT Fitness) ability to find creative ways to raise over $3,000.00 on her own.

In the midst of team building and money gathering, I designed a bandanna with Julianne Weiner of Sonic Promos to be worn by Team Sudor Taino on the day of the Walk and to promote our commitment to the cause. The bandanna was made in the brightest pink to symbolize the team’s glowing energy, the words Sudor Tainowere also put on the bandanna to represent the businessmission and most importantly, the Breast cancer ribbon was added to represent the cause we were so eager to fight for.

About one week prior to the walk, Sudor Taino was asked to do the center stage warm-up for all the registered walkers. The walkers included two week survivor Irina Sirovsky, ten year survivor like Rita Miller, women that were just diagnosed, women that will be diagnosed, supporters, fundraisers and my hard-working team.I thought to myself, what an honor to share the same energy with all of those strong human beings.

The October 5, 20008 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Bushnell Park (Hartfird, CT) was more than just a walk and a warm-up, it was about touching lives. For me, it was a day that I looked out at a crowd of strangers with my team behind me as I said into the microphone,Where is your energy? Why are you here? And I was greeted with the most beautiful energy which I witnessed move people of all shapes sizes, colors, and gender. It was an energy that Team Sudor Taino helped to createan energy that was generated for a worthy cause.

Sudor Taino is proud to the be the top fundraising team in the Hartford’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, raising nearly 10,000 (and counting) not including matching funds.Next year, it is our intention on doubling our energy, team and contribution! It seems that Team Sudor Taino and Breast Cancer have a silent warbreast cancer is taking lives and Sudor Taino is touching lives.

To the members of Team Sudor Taino, my second family, you have impressed me with your commitment and true commitment to finding what not only moves you but what will make you better human beings.I am delighted and motivated by what is yet to come for our family.

To Teri our pacesetter, the team’s success would not have been possible without your hard work and innovative fundraising events. It was you that gave us the momentum that we needed. You are awesome!

To those women yet to be diagnosed, be strong and believe that all tribulations make us who we are and without tribulation we would be nothing.Dig deep in your coreit is there that you will find the survivor instinct.

To Breast CancerSudor Taino will continue to make strides against you.See you next year!
