Can’t Afford A Vacation? Go To Your Bathroom!

Purchasing a home is one of those milestone events that represent the best of life; stability, security, and family. Choosing the carpet, paint colors, and landscape design is an exciting experience and the ideas of entertaining family and friends run rampant. The fantasies we have when going through the process of owning a home soon fade into the distant past when we are overwhelmed with the reality of everyday life.

As a single, working mother, buying my first home was a lot like choosing the right pair of shoes. I wanted something stylish, open, and comfortable. While most women eyeball how big the kitchen is and what amenities line the perimeter, the deciding room for me was the bathroom. While I can only speak to being a single-mom, I’m sure that married mothers would agree that the bathroom is the one room in the whole house that offers a retreat without being disturbed. No one dares to enter or even utter the words Momor Honey?!when the door is closed. There seems to be a silent code of conduct that exists around the bathroom.

With our economy in the toilet [no pun intended], vacation time is taking a back seat to putting gas in the tank. While more and more women are forfeiting vacation time to make more money to support their households, relishing alone timeis a commodity that is highly sought after. So how do you get away, without getting away? As I mentioned earlier, the bathroom was always the deciding room for me when buying a home. Not having much money leftover or saved for a real vacation, my bathroom became a respite.

Let’s see how turning your bathroom into a spa retreat can transform your physical, emotional, and spiritual state of being into one that is energized and focused.

Infusing aromatherapy is a simple step that can instantly uplift and shift your state of being. Choosing the right fragrance or scent is important. Understanding how various scents arouse the senses will help you choose one that will suit your needs. Lavender is most known for its soothing, relaxing effects. Most citrus scents have the opposite effect; they awaken and enliven the senses.

Another method to turning your bathroom into a spa retreat is surrounding yourself with beautiful flowers, silk or real. Flowers transform any room into a place of beauty and instantly uplifts and soothes the soul. Accessorizing with plush, colorful towels and accent pieces will put the final touches in creating an esthetically pleasing environment.

Now, the final step in creating a spa retreat in the bathroom is the experience of pampering yourself. What does this mean? Well, for starters, aromatic mineral soaks or body scrubs in the shower begins the journey to becoming a bona-fide pamper-babe. You have the option to always choose to make your bathroom experience a spa experience. Did you know that sea salts have the amazing benefit of extracting toxins from the body? Did you also know that massaging the skin helps to stimulate the circulatory system? The added benefit is that you actually help reduce the appearance of cellulite. My favorite reason, loving myself enough to know I deserve to be pampered, even if it’s by me!

The bathroom, as utilitarian as it is, can be one of the most delightful, restorative rooms in your home. Finding creative ways to release, relax, and rejuvenate your mind and body does not have to be expensive. Use what you have to get what you want in every area of your life. Wellness is a state of being go to the bathroom, and be well.
