Splitting the Lunch Bill

Ah, spending time with friends over dinner. Ugh, haggling over the tab. Not Priceless!

If you’re with a group that is splitting the bill, it’s important that you all agree that the bill will be split evenly. Part of the reason for eating out together is to enjoy each other’s company and probably togossip and the glow from a fine evening of sharing food and scandal can dissolve quickly when you’re arguing over who had a glass of wine and who had dessert.

Follow these tips:

  • Have one person check the bill for general accuracy this person must be able to read, add, and not play favorites
  • Figure out the proper tip the percentage notshe really shouldn’t wear those shoes with that dress. This should be from 15-20 percent.
  • Add the tip to the total bill and divide equally between the diners couples count as two individual people, notwe are as one
  • If someone is paying by credit card, that person should be handed everyone’s cash And next time, remind her to bring bills not plastic.
  • If someone balks (I didn’t have dessert, and I don’t want to pay the extra six dollars), give them the mean eye then reach into your pocket and make up the difference. But don’t invite them again since she doesn’t play well with others.
