Some tips thatwe offer our clients on this topic:
Great rid of anything that doesn’t represent ROMANCE (and/or relaxation) in the BEDROOM. Nothing can kill a romantic moment than catching a glimpse of your mother-in-laws picture. I worked w/someone who’s boyfriend had a painting of his mother from her modeling days…and yes, it was a nude…And no, they aren’t together anymore!
Use the color RED if in a legally binding relationship. Use PINK if single & looking for a relationship, or in a casual one. Use PEACH/CORAL/ORANGE if a relationship isn’t your cup of tea, but passion/sex are. Bring in these colors for bedding, pillows, candles, flowers.
Think sensual, tactile fabrics. Velvet, silk, satin, cashmere…anything that says “touch me” when you feel it. Stay away from the burlaps, anything crocheted, brocades or rough textured.
If employing aromatherapy to further set the mood, stay away from anything that say FRAGRANCE on it. These products were made synthetically from a petrochemical base. If your “loved one” has any type of allergy or other upper respiratory ailment, this will inflame it & nothing kills passion than a stuffed up, runny nose. Look for items SCENTED with essential oils. Particularly ylang ylang, cinnamon, vanilla (#1 fave scent of men!), anything spicy will also do the trick.
Engage ALL of the senses in the design, from the touch, smell & sight, to adding sound (romantic music-although find out what they like Marvin Gaye or Barry White isn’t everyone’s taste level) to taste. Having chocolates on a table, (or any other finger food) is perfect to help set the ambience for a great Vday night!
Using candles to help amp up the “fire” energy (ie. passion) of the night (see #4). Although pay attention as you don’t want to start the room literally on fire if you aren’t paying attention to a lit flame!
When designing a romantic space, think of items/decor that inspire romance…a gun collection or pictures of your ex have to go! Also displaying things in pairs (2s) also helps to set the stage. 2 candles, 2 photos of you & your significant other….you want to symbolize a couple! Items displayed individually signify 1/alone, or in 3s as a third person coming in between you & your beloved.
I hope some of these tips help!
