Living the Proverbs 31 Life – Proverbs 31:12

Do you make a schedule based on what has come up for that day, or do you prepare a schedule based on your goals and priorities? Let’s talk today about designing your work week to serve you.

1) Create broad categories that you spend time on in your business. For example, Marketing, Managing Client Accounts, Accounting, Special Projects, Strategic Planning, Researching Vendors.

Block out the time in your calendar that is needed in each area. Managing Accounts may be something that has to be addressed every day, so mark off time for that. Block out your once a week staff meeting. Are you spending time on your long term strategic plans for the business. Make time every week or every other week for that.

2) Create a time in the day where you do not check emails and let the phone go to voicemail. Interruptions cost us time and focus. While many of us multitask, it is far less productive than focusing on one thing. If you are in an office that has constant interruptions, let co-workers know that when the door is closed, you are not available.

3) Use one calendar for all of your activities and events. It does not matter whether it is digital or paper. Use what works for you. If you like writing things down and that helps you remember, then use a paper system. If you can think easily when you type on a keyboards, then digital may be the best fit for you.

Remember, if you have not addressed the “when” for your activities they will never get done. Put it in your calendar!

Having pure motives is the only way to live out the truth of this text. No hidden agendas. No manipulation. Manifesting the love of God only. Hard? Yes. Impossible? No. Remember, from our introductory lesson, “With God, all things are possible.” (See Matt. 19:26.).

This verse, of course, is another reference to the Proverb 31 Woman’s marital relationship. The reason a man gives a Proverbs 31 Woman his heart (v. 11) is because she comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her. No one, unless they are insane, will continually mistreat someone who comforts, encourages, and is good to them. If for no other reason, the recipient of this treatment will feel guilty if they act ugly towards someone who is always kind to them. So, my advice to the married woman is to find ways to comfort, encourage, and be good to your husband. The New Living Translation says, “She will not hinder him but help him all her life.” So, be a help to him and not a hindrance. If you hinder him, you hinder you. By adhering to this verse you will be sowing seeds that will bring you a harvest like you have never imagined. Again, do these things as unto the Lord. That is, do them out of obedience to God and God will see to it that you are blessed.

Single women, you’re not off the hook… This verse applies to you as well. It speaks to character. You should comfort, encourage, and do good to all those whom God brings across your path. Treat people with kindness. Follow the Golden Rule of doing unto others, as you would have them do unto you. Just recently I had an opportunity to practice this. I came into contact with someone whose behavior I find appalling and I soon found myself being unfriendly towards them. The Holy Spirit reminded me whose I was and I was quickly convicted. I repented, put the issue in the Lord’s hands, and began showing that person courtesy. I recognized that regardless as to how others behave, I must keep my relationship with God intact. I also recognized that I must remember that it is the devil that is ultimately behind those people’s nasty behavior and I must take authority over him. So, this is how you do it: put the offending parties into the Lord’s hands, put the devil in his place (under your feet) and have yourself a good day! Never let the devil steal your joy!

So, married or single, be that comforting, encouraging, and good woman. Do it as unto the Lord and He will richly reward you. Hallelujah! See you in the next article!
