Living the Proverbs 31 Life – Proverbs 31:24

Proverbs 31:24 She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles [or sashes that free one up for service].

Not only does the Proverbs 31 Woman develop wool and flax into textiles, but she also makes garments from them. Not only does she wear the fine linen garments herself (v. 22 – Lesson 14), but she also leads others to buy them. Additionally, she delivers girdles (sashes that free one up for service) to the merchants. As stated in Lesson 5, the Proverbs 31 Woman is an industrious woman. The present text also speaks to her maintaining high quality and workmanship. She uses only the best materials – fine linen – and then she gets others to buy them. If her garments were of poor quality or workmanship, no one would buy them. There is also an implication that she is a prosperous businesswoman. Certainly her selling fine linen garments brings her a good price. If it didn’t, I doubt she would continue to make and sell them. It is unwise to spend too much time doing something that is unprofitable.

The spiritual side of the Proverbs 31 Woman is also evident in this verse. In the study of verse 22 (Lesson 14), we spoke of how her linen garments referred to her anointing. The present verse shows that she walks in her anointing in such a way that makes others want the anointing for themselves (she “leads others to buy them”). She also takes her anointing and uses it to free people for service. This means that she intercedes for, or in other ways, supports those who serve in ministry.

What an awesome woman of God…you are. Continue to let God develop the Proverbs 31 qualities in you and you’ll go down in history just as the woman of our text did.
