When Mary McManus contracted paralytic
polio at the age of 5, she experienced a vision of God. This vision
brought her comfort and strength and enabled her to endure grueling
hours of physical therapy to regain the ability to walk. She had an
award winning social work career, when in December 2006, she was
diagnosed with post polio syndrome at Spaulding Rehab’s International
Rehab Center for Polio.

With her body immobilized once more,
God spoke to her and through her as poetry began pouring out of her
soul. Through the gift of poetry, Mary’s spirit could experience joy
and freedom. She imagined and dreamed and created a new world for
herself. She left her full time job to heal her life and follow the
path which was unfolding before her.
