Polio: Forgotten But Not Gone
On January 10, 2010 at 10 pm EST Jordan Rich, critically acclaimed WBZ Radio Host, is dedicating an hour long show to Polio: Forgotten But Not Gone. Diva Toolbox Contributor and polio survivor/Boston Marathon finisher Mary McManus is the associate producer for the show. Most consider polio a thing of the past and thankfully in the United States it has been forgotten thanks to the Salk Vaccine. But polio still exists in Nigeria, Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Because we are a global economy, polio is only a plane ride away. But Rotary International has made incredible strides in eradicating polio through Polio Plus and their End Polio Now Campaign. Bill and Melinda Gates donated $355 million to Rotary International with a $200 matching grant challenge.
“When polio is finally wiped from the face of the earth, it will be only
the second disease – the first was smallpox – ever eradicated due to
human intervention. It will be a global health accomplishment of
monumental proportion.”
Join Jordan Rich, Mary McManus, Mary Jane Salk, sister in law of the late Jonas Salk, James Terpenning, polio survivor and para Olympian Gold Medalist and Fred deNapoli, polio survivor and Boston area Rotarian for this show of education and inspiration.
