Choosing the Right Color for You
I had the most fun I have had in a long time yesterday…I took my 77-year old mother shopping for her wedding suit!My mother is petite so we really wanted to find something to give her stature.Shehad agreat suit in mind and instead of white, she wanted something very bright and cheerful. We found it…a bright red suit!My mom has silver hair, olive skin and brown eyes. The contrast between her hair and skin is not as profound as it once was, but she is definitely still contrasting and the red suit made her look ten years younger and added inches to her height.
What is your season? There is an article on my website that goes into great detail about color seasons. It can be found at http://www.glamourbylbd.com/articles/2007/11/05/whats-your-color-seasonHere are a few quick tips…
When someone has contrasting hair and skin color, they will look their best in an outfit with a dark element, a light element and a bright element (such as a red scarf or handbag). This will accentuate the contrast without (as my best friend, Colleen puts it) “making me turn orange.”
If someone lacks the contrast then it is important to wear either all light colors, a light and a medium or a medium and a dark. So, she should avoid the black suit with the white top…look at a camel or grey instead.Never underestimate the power of a scarf or piece of jewelryto bring life back to someone who has disappeared inside their suit!
One final tip:to give yourself height and to downplay parts of your body, dress in a column of color. So, either wear pants and a top which match and then contrast with an accessory or jacket; or wear pants or a skirt with a matching jacket and an offsetting blouse. My other favorite for summer is a great dress with a fun handbag, shoes or jewelry as my statement!
