Thanksgiving–Creating Your Own Ceremony of Gratitude
Since 1997, my husband, Gary and I have hosted Thanksgiving for our families. The first year or two we did the usual full day of overeating and drinking. Afterwards we felt exhausted, stuffed yet somehow empty. Have you ever felt that? Let down after a whole day of being together?
We created a special ceremony that allows each of us to touch into the deeper current of community and express appreciation or acknowledgment for the blessings in our individual lives.
The first year we offered this to our family we had a mixed response. Some were immediately eager, two declined on the grounds that it may interfere in their religious practice, and several rolled their eyes and muttered about
