Relationship Books: Queens Don’t Marry Knights

Queens don’t marry knights, they marry Kings!

So, if you are waiting for your knight in shining armor — guess what? You are not ready to receive your Kingyou’re just a lady in waiting and maybe a knight will do. Frankly, I’m not waiting for the knight in shining armorI want a man who knows he is King of my world! I have used too many cans of WD-40 on rusted armor for knights arriving on half-bred Pintos.

Don’t get me wrong, knights have their place in the kingdom. But your King will make sure you have everything you need and then some. He will do for his Queen whatever is necessary to please her.

Ladies, are you the Queen ready for the heart of your King?

He can be all that you want and desire; tall, dark, and handsome. He can look your way and cause you to melt like butter on a hot knife. Being prepared to receive your King is a task that should not be taken lightly.

The biblical story of Queen Esther tells how she remained in the chamber of preparation for one year before she was called to visit her King. She underwent a stringent beautification process; the first six months with oil of myrrh and the next six months with perfumes and cosmetics. Myrrh had popular uses in biblical times. It was and is still used in perfumes, as an anti-inflammatory, a tonic, a stimulant, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, sedative and anti-microbial. You can only imagine how beautiful her skin and hair was when her time came to see the King. In addition to her beautification process, she learned of the King’s likes and dislikes, and etiquette. She relied heavily on Hagei, the eunuch in charge of the King’s harem, to help her make wise choices before time for her visit to the King.

She wanted to be exceptional in the King’s eyes and in order to do that she knew that it would take time to learn and prepare.

For those of you familiar with the story of Esther, you know that it was her outer beauty that caught the eye of the King, but it was her demeanor and humbling presence that kept his attention. Now that is a word you don’t hear too much of these days: humble. As beautiful as she was, she humbled herself before the King. She didn’t go to him with this attitude ofCheck all this out, King, babybet you ain’t never seen nothin’ like this?! So many beautiful women don’t check their self-glorified attitudes at the door. That is unfortunate because no matter how beautiful they are, the right man will take a plain Jane with a positive humbled attitude over them any day of the week.

What is most profound in the story of Esther, and is only implied, is the fact that the King knew what he was looking for in a Queen. Whatever the other candidates were doing, it did not appease him. Make a note of this: He was looking for her. She was being prepared to receive him. I hope y’all get this! Yes, I said y’all’been in Texas too long.

If we, ladies, would remember this and continue doing our best to be our best, our King will spot us without us putting too much effort forward. You want to stand out as exceptional.
