The Art of Healing – Investing in the Health & Fitness Future

With all the talk about the tanking economy and dwindling retirement accounts, there is one sure fire investment which pays huge dividends – investing in my health and fitness. I used to dread workouts They were a painful reminder of what I was unable to do. I focused on weakness rather than strength and what I could not do.A workout was something to get through and check it off my list of things to do for that day. I can now experience workouts as an opportunity to accept and love myself with all of my imperfections. It is a time to experience the joy of being in my body regardless of what I can or cannot do.

Running a marathon, like running the marathon of life is 90% mental and 10% physical. Doing my daily workouts of mind, body and spirit takes focus and discipline. After running the Boston Marathon, my body is undergoing another period of adjustment. I have chosen to forego the rigors of long distance running to focus on keeping muscles and joints as healthy as I can. Every morning I express my gratitude that all of my body parts are moving, that I can see the room, hear the sounds of the birds and my cat meowing and smell the coffee. I say thank you as I place my feet on the floor and take the first steps of the day.

I have a health and fitness schedule for the week and schedule my day to ensure I achieve my goal for the day. I know that as the day wears on, my energy level declines. It is so easy to become distracted and to move the workout lower on the list of priorities for the day.
