Awaken your life and business through the senses

Awaken
your life and business through the senses

What if the smell of roses made you more
creative, or the texture of granite made you feel clear and grounded? What if
Beethoven’s 9th aroused passion for you and a photograph of the ocean opened up
your sense of possibility? How would that affect your life and your business? If
you could increase productivity by over 66% with a few simple adjustments would
you be interested to learn more?

Sensing
the way

If you’re constantly making big decisions,
you naturally want to feel at your best, your most intuitive and clear.
Wouldn’t you want to know how to prepare yourself to make the most authentic,
congruent decision you could? What if a particular scent helped cultivate that
clarity? What if more consciously
experiencing the senses could lead you to yourself and the deeper truth about
how you engage with the world, with others, and most importantly yourself?

More
than common sense

The senses are merely portals into a deeper
reality. Many of don’t realize but we’re neglecting some of our senses and in
so doing we could be reducing our quality of life and also our productivity,
and, on a deeper level, our sense of who we are. It’s no mistake we use the
word sense’ in a way that relates to self-reflection: sense of space; sense of
humor; sense of self.

Sensory
world

We grow up in a sensory world. Even in the
womb we’re sensing we hear, we feel, we taste. And flavors, smells, colors all have associations and memories
connected with them. If that rose you smell reminds you of a time when your
first boyfriend brought you flowers, or the sound of wind chimes makes you feel
comforted and safe, or the roar of a souped up sports car makes you feel
strong, don’t you think it would be great to be more conscious about how you
use sound and color in your environment?

I grew up in England, and there’s just
something about the sound of blackbirds I absolutely adore. It reminds me of
long, balmy summer days, of the school holidays, walks with the dogs, of
camping trips with friends, laughing around a campfire. Freedom. The smell of
cut grass reminds me of the countless hours I spent in the garden, inventing
characters for my stories. It’s a creative smell for me. It’s also soothing.
There’s something also about the color aqua that just makes me feel a huge
sense of space and possibility. That’s why I use it on my website. It’s a motif
color for me.

Sensory
marketing

Back to the color aqua and how I use that my
branding. There’s such a thing as
sensory marketing. When you see adverts on TV, listen to the music, hear the
words. It’s all very intentional. I’ll cover that more thoroughly in another
article, but we all know the golden arches of McDonalds, the Nike tick, and
what about the roar of a Harley, the Del computers chime, and now many
companies are using smells more consciously in their offices (I’m wondering
who’s going to invent the first scratch and sniff TV!). There’s been a study
that shows that when an office is designed with all the right colors, and
sensory stimulation correctly, that productivity goes up more than 66%. Now
that’s worth something!

The
happiness factor

I’ve had people vastly increase their
efficiency and productivity with a few simple adjustments to their environment.
One person, a marketing expert, relies very much on her creativity to bring in
new accounts, and keep her existing clients happy. She was going through a
flat’ period though. Inspiration wasn’t coming. It didn’t take us long to
figure out why. As we explored the senses she realized she hadn’t been cooking
lately, something she loved to do less for the eating, and more for the smells.
So smell was very connected with her sense of creativity. As was music
