When it comes to Feng Shui in children’s rooms, color and placement of objects are important to create a soothing and stimulating environment for your kids to grow.

Earth colors like light oranges, warm yellows and terracotta are good wall colors for a child’s room. These colors help children to feel safe and allows for harmonious energy and growth. Warm pastels like peach, lavender and cocoa are also good color choices. However, avoid cold colors like blues, grays or greens because they allow for insecurities and reduce the warmth of the room. Bright colors should also be avoided, but if a child is drawn to bright primary colors they may be used as accents.

As far as placement goes, the locations of their bed and desk (if there is one in your child’s room) are perhaps the most important parts of Feng Shui for your child. The bed should not be placed right across form a door. A bed placed away from the direct line of the door will help a child sleep better. There should be a wall on one side of the bed as well and if possible, be placed in a corner. This will help a child feel more secure. Where the head of the bed is located is also important. If you have a child who has a difficult time waking up in the morning, the head of their bed should be at the east or south. This direction helps children wake up early. However, if the head of the bed is at the north and west, this means that this child is more susceptible to deep sleep.

Where your child’s desk is located in their room is also important because the desk should be in a place that promotes learning. You want the desk to face into the room, so that when your child sits at the desk, his or her back is the wall. Commonly, the desk is set against a wall and children sit with their backs to the middle of the room; however, this can cause a child to be distracted by what is behind them. Sitting with your back to the wall simply allows for better concentration.

Other ways to encourage learning and create a stimulating environment for your kids in their rooms is to decorate it with items that encourage success like maps, globes and star charts. These items encourage curiosity and help expand a child’s horizon. Also find a place to hang achievements or showcase awards your child receives. Hanging these items up as well as items like artwork and report cards is another way to encourage learning and creativity. Just make sure your child’s room reflects growth and safety so your child feels comfortable to sleep and study there.
