Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful and wonderful emotion.

In my practice as a hypnotherapist, I used to do a 5 session
class called Self Hypnosis to Allow Abundance. In addition to encouraging positive
expectations and removing limiting thoughts, there was a huge focus on
gratitude. One participant had just been
released from prison after spending 10 years incarcerated. One of a host of challenges he faced was
getting a realjob. He was working for several people doing odd jobs, but he
wanted more. Instead of being impatient
and filled with self judging , I encouraged him to see the value in what he was
already doing. Thank you for the job I
now have. I am grateful to be working
while being open to other possibilities. He came to class one night and said
Wow, talk about abundance! I just got a
job that will pay $50,000! I never
imagined I could make that much.

Gratitude is huge in my life. I am no saint and of course I have
challenging times. But, to the best of my
ability, I feel and express gratitude daily for what I have. For instance, we all have household
responsibilities that can feel overwhelming at times. If I start to feel annoyed while doing
housework, I give thanks that we have a beautiful, warm house that I can care
for and that I have the physical ability to care for our home and my family. I sometimes fret over the messinessof the
wood burning stove in our kitchen. But
most of the time, I am thankful for the warmth, ambience, and almost free heat
we enjoy. As a lot of time and effort
goes into my new business, I give thanks that I have productive and meaningful
work. A small adjustment in perspective can have a very large impact.

I recently received a copy of a newsletter from The
Richardson Group. It talked about a 10
Day Mental Diet and had a list of questions to ask in the morning, evening, and
when facing a problem. I love it and in
addition to putting the list on my blog, I am sharing it with you.
