Embracing Opposites

The Wizard of Oz begins with a destructive tornado, the discovery of
the dead witch, and then moves to the contrast of the celebration in
Munchkinland and the fun of the journey to Oz. All the songs, dancing,
pranks, scary parts and colorful characters are of course, what made it
so entertaining.

Life is like that isn’t it? There is good and the evil, boring and fun,
peace and the horror, black and white, conservative and liberal. All
these forces and events contribute to our world.

Without hate, you can’t know love. Without sorrow, you can’t know joy.
Without fun, you wouldn’t understand boredom. Without chocolate, you
wouldn’t taste vanilla.

Embrace the opposites in your life the joy, the sadness, the
senseless, the brilliance, the energy, the tiredness, the wins, the
losses. Realize that these things shape who you are.

Our habits and behaviors usually result in judgment and criticism of
people and situations who are opposite from us. I’ve learned a lot by
paying attention to my experiences and noticing what I observe about
life and the world around me. You can do this too, however, you need to
have patience with yourself and others and learn to suspend judgment
and evaluation of others. Develop compassion for people in situations
that are opposite from yours or when someone treats you differently
than you expect. Remember your life is like a fabulous and interesting
screenplay. You are in it, and even though you don’t know the ending,
you can enjoy the journey.
